The UP 347 Junior level workshop built the essential technical skills expected for success in the urban planning profession. The course focused on applying these skills to real-world planning scenarios with Park Ridge, IL being used as the primary study area. Throughout the semester, I developed a strong understanding of urban analysis and cartography. I utilized a multitude of industry tools (ArcGIS Pro, Adobe Illustrator & InDesign) along with learning the basis of manual drafting.

Crafted a comprehensive vision statement alongside specific goals, objectives, strategies, and measures.
Designed an illustrative Future Land Use Map to guide infrastructure investments, identify development opportunities, and inform future zoning changes.
Developed a new street classification system to match the recommended physical improvements of the city.
The final project was compiled into an executive summary-style brochure and poster using Adobe InDesign.

Developed a comprehensive demographic profile comparing Park Ridge to peer communities, Chicago, and Cook County.
This process involed creating detailed (though still easy to understand) tables, charts, graphs, and demographic maps at various scales.
Conducted a Regional Community Displacement Risk Assessment by mapping critical indicators such as household area median income, renter-occupied units, and education attainment.
These visualizations were compiled into an Existing Conditions Report to guide future planning recommendations.
